The Canadian Union of Postal Workers announced their strike today, November 15, 2024, causing disruptions to mail service across Canada.
Below are the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake's plans for managing this disruption, along with alternative methods to ensure you can continue to access Town services without delay.
Billing and Payments
Property owners remain responsible for making timely payments, and we encourage the use of alternative payment methods to avoid delays. Please note that penalty and interest charges will continue to apply:
- Online Payments: Access your eSend portal to view and pay bills conveniently online. For more information, please visit www.notl.com/council-government/property-taxes.
- In Person Payments: Visit Town Hall (1593 Four Mile Creek Road, Virgil) during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) to make payments directly or leave your payment in the designated drop boxes on site.
Paying for a Parking Ticket
The Town offers several convenient ways to pay parking tickets, ensuring timely payments without relying on mail service:
- Online: Visit www.notl.com/town-services/parking/paying-or-disputing-parking-ticket
- Phone: Call 1-855-288-4097
- 24-Hour Drop Box: Place the Penalty Notice in an envelope with a cheque, cash, or money order in the drop box at Town Hall.
- In Person: Present the Penalty Notice during regular business hours at Town Hall.
Please note that the parking screening process may experience delays due to the postal strike; however, those requesting a screening or receiving correspondence through the screening process will be accommodated.
Notices
To comply with legislative requirements, any essential notices (e.g., planning notices) that would typically be sent by mail will instead be posted on the Town’s website and social media channels and shared through local online media channels, including local newspapers. Public Notice signs for planning applications will continue to be posted on properties.
Online Services and Assistance
We encourage residents to explore our online resources to stay connected and complete tasks without interruption.
- Contact the Town: For questions or assistance, please call Town Hall at 905-468-3266 ext. 0 or email info@notl.com.
- In Person Assistance: Residents are welcome to visit Town Hall to speak with Staff and access services for tasks that cannot be completed online or over the phone.
Additional Communication Channels
In addition to digital platforms, Town Staff will work with the local media, where appropriate, to help support and ensure all residents stay informed about service options and updates during this period.
The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is committed to maintaining seamless operations and providing alternative solutions for our community during the postal disruption. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
