Operations & Training

The Operations & Training Division is led by the Deputy Fire Chief – Operations & Training with the department’s Training Officer and Program Administrator reporting directly. This division oversees all fire suppression activities, training, fleet and facilities requirements, and health and safety requirements.

All our active firefighters perform nearly 100 hours of regularly scheduled maintenance training each year. Each new recruit that joins the Niagara-on-the-Lake Fire & Emergency Services will undergo 300 hours of initial training. This training program is in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association Standard for firefighter qualifications. all our firefighters are also certified in First Aid by the Heart & Stroke Foundation, as well as CPR & Defibrillator through a regional Defib program.

Niagara-on-the-Lake Fire & Emergency Services offers our members the opportunity to advance their skills by offering a chance to attend specialized training courses. These are taught either at one of our stations, led by our Training Officer and Officers and firefighters, or can also be off-site by instructors from all over the province, which include such topics as Auto Extrication, Live Fire scenarios, and Firefighter Survival training.
