Account Monitoring, Questions and Concerns
Town Staff monitor official Town social media accounts during regular business hours, from Monday to Friday at 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Town Staff make every effort to respond to questions and concerns as quickly as possible. In some cases, Staff may suggest continuing the conversation offline due to the following factors:
- Privacy concerns of yourself, fellow resident(s) or Town employee(s)
- Character limitations for messages
- Amount of detail required to solve an issue
Social Media Community Guidelines
The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s social media accounts are the official source of information relating to Town initiatives, programs, services, events and activities.
The Town acknowledges the significance of social media platforms in communicating and engaging with residents. When accessing, contacting, or participating in any of the Town’s social media channels, users are required to adhere to the following guidelines. Additionally, it is important to thoroughly review and abide by the Terms of Use set forth by the social media providers themselves, as users are bound by those terms as well.
We encourage healthy discussion and interaction on our social media channels and encourage users to post comments and share the Town’s content. We ask that everyone treats each other respectfully and follow the Town’s Social Media Community Guidelines.
The Town reserves the right to hide or delete comments and/or block users that engage in inappropriate conduct such as:
- Discrimination against or intolerance of race, culture, appearance, gender, sexual orientation, religion or age, physical or mental disability or any other status.
- Using profane, obscene, foul or inappropriate language.
- Using swear words disguised by deliberate misspelling.
- Defamatory, disrespectful or insulting language to Town Staff, other organizations or other individuals.
- Sharing information or links to inappropriate, offensive or illegal material.
- Sharing information about illegal activity or encouraging illegal activity.
- Sharing sexual content or links to sexual content.
- Sharing personal information about another participant.
- Insulting or harassing other participants.
- Anything the Town considers to be inappropriate.
The Town reserves the right to hide, delete and/or report comments and posts that include threats, infringements upon the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, discriminatory language, profanity, or any other material considered inappropriate.
