• Tax Bill Information

  It is the responsibility of all property owner's to ensure that the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake has up-to-date information regarding ownership and mailing addresses. Failure to receive a bill does not excuse a taxpayer from the responsibility of payment of taxes and penalty.

  Interim Tax Bills are calculated using the following formula:
  Present Year Assessment x ½ of Last Years Tax Rate

  Owners of Residential or Farm properties can calculate their annual taxes by multiplying the property’s assessment by the appropriate tax rates.

  Property Tax Bills for portions assessed (in whole or in part) in the Commercial, Industrial or Multi-Residential classification are subject to Capping Legislation.  Therefore Final taxes are not limited to the Assessment multiplied by the Tax rates otherwise referred to as CVA taxes.

  AboutMyProperty^TM:

  AboutMyProperty^TM is a free service available through MPAC which provides assessment information on your property and similar properties in your area.  Through this service, you can access property assessment information, site information, recent sales information, and structural information.

  To register, you will need the 15-digit User ID number and password located on the bottom right-hand corner of your most recent Property Assessment Notice.

  To access AboutMyProperty^TM, visit the MPAC website.  If you have any questions about this service or if you have misplaced your User ID number or password, please contact MPAC directly on MPAC website or 1-866-296-MPAC(6722).

  Request for Reconsideration (RfR):

  If you do not agree with your assessment, MPAC will review it free of charge through a Request for Reconsideration (RfR).  Forms are available on the MPAC website or at the Town Administration Offices in Virgil.

Payment Methods

• Pre-Authorized Payment

  • Pre-authorized Payment (PAP) Plan - automatic withdrawals from your bank account for taxes; monthly or due date payment plans.

• Credit Card Through Paymentus

  Paymentus is a third-party service, available online or by automated phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and accepts MasterCard and Visa.

  To Access this Service:

  • Pay on-line or call toll-free at 1-855-288-4097
  • Paymentus charges a service fee for each transaction (see below).  Please note: The Town does not receive any part of this service fee.
  • Each bill will need to be paid individually.

  Service Fees:

  Payment Type	Service Fee
  Tax Payments	2.75% to a maximum of $25,000
  Other Town Payments (i.e. parking tickets)	$3.00 per transaction to a maximum of $350

  What You Will Need:

  • A 19-digit roll number for property tax payments
  • Parking ticket number (8-10 digit number) for parking fines
  • Alphanumeric customer number for all other payments
  • The amount you wish to pay
  • Your credit card number

  Confirmation:

  • The Town will receive instant notification of your payment and will process it by the end of the next business day.
  • For each payment, you will receive a confirmation number, and the Town will also send you an email confirmation for your records.

  • By phone using Telephone Banking through your financial institution.
  • At any financial institution in person or at Automatic Teller Machines. 
  • On-line Banking through your financial institution's website using your 19-digit roll number. 
  • In-person at the Town Administration building at: 1593 Four Mile Creek Road, Virgil, ON. 
  • By using one of our 24-hour mail slots located at the front (Accessible Drop Box) and side entrances of the Town Administration building.
  • By mailing a cheque prior to the due date to:  PO Box 100, Virgil, ON, L0S 1T0.
