Transit Services

Niagara-on-the-Lake welcomes NRT OnDemand transit, a new, dynamic Rideshare service, provided in partnership with the Niagara Region and VIA Mobility. NRT OnDemand does not operate on a fixed route like conventional transit services. Instead, it lets riders request trips in real-time through the app or over the phone by selecting a pickup point and destination.

Background

At the August 24, 2020, Council Meeting, Council approved a one-year On-Demand Pilot Program, run by Via Mobility LLC, that mobilized two vehicles to help accommodate transit needs in both urban and rural areas of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
In May 2022, Council approved an expansion of service hours to 10pm 6 days a week, effective June 20th, 2022.
Initial areas of service include Old Town, Virgil, and Glendale; however, the possibility of moving to a four-vehicle model, increasing service to include Queenston and St. Davids, is being considered, subject to available funding from the Region and Town as part of the 2021 budget deliberations.

In November 2021, Council approved a Business Case to expand service to the entire Municipality, which included moving to a four-vehicle model.

The public can now access service through an app on their smartphone, or, for those without access to a smartphone, by dialing in. This program also integrates into the Niagara Regional Transit On-demand mobile application.
