Transit Services

Niagara-on-the-Lake welcomes NRT OnDemand transit, a new, dynamic Rideshare service, provided in partnership with the Niagara Region and VIA Mobility. NRT OnDemand does not operate on a fixed route like conventional transit services. Instead, it lets riders request trips in real-time through the app or over the phone by selecting a pickup point and destination.

Background

At the August 24, 2020, Council Meeting, Council approved a one-year On-Demand Pilot Program, run by Via Mobility LLC, that mobilized two vehicles to help accommodate transit needs in both urban and rural areas of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Initial areas of service include Old Town, Virgil, and Glendale; however, the possibility of moving to a four-vehicle model, increasing service to include Queenston and St. Davids, is being considered, subject to available funding from the Region and Town as part of the 2021 budget deliberations.

The public can now access service through an app on their smartphone, or, for those without access to a smartphone, by dialing in. This program also integrates into the Niagara Regional Transit On-demand mobile application.

What is Rideshare?

Rideshare is a transportation option that uses smartphone technology and a fleet of dedicated vehicles to provide trips within the service boundaries with no fixed schedules or routes.

Your fare allows you to travel from your location to the pre-set destination you select when you book your ride. This is a flat fee service; the price will never increase based on your location or service area.

  • $3 for trips within Niagara-on-the-Lake
  • $6 for trips to other communities (available to residents of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Grimsby, Lincoln, Pelham, Wainfleet and West Lincoln)

OnDemand riders arriving at any of our three transit hubs can transfer onto Regional or local transit to complete their trip.

For example, a rider can board an OnDemand vehicle in Grimsby, transfer to a Niagara Region Transit bus at the St. Catharines Bus Terminal, and travel to the Outlet Collection at Niagara, all for just the one Regional fare.

Hours of Operation

NRT OnDemand operates year-round, with exceptions for holiday hours.

  • Monday to Saturday: 7 a.m. - 10 p.m.
  • Sunday: Closed
  • Service in Niagara-on-the-Lake runs Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
