The War of 1812 continues to have an enduring impact on political and social currents in North America. In this special one-time gathering, top Canadian and American historians reflect on the lasting impact of the War of 1812 and how it continues to affect culture, opinions and views in Canada, the United States and Britain.
Donald R. Hickey: Donald Hickey is America's foremost historian on the War of 1812 and was acclaimed to be "the dean of 1812 scholarship" by The New Yorker magazine. He has written eight books on the War of 1812, (eleven in all) and over a hundred journal articles, mostly on the same subject. Hickey's 1989 work, The War of 1812, the Forgotten Conflict, has been referred to as "the definitive study" on that war.
Ronald J. Dale: Ronald Dale is an historian and genealogist from Niagara-on-the-Lake. In his earlier career, he was the Superintendent of Niagara National Historic Sites for Parks Canada. He is the author number articles and books, including The Invasion of Canada: Battles of the War of 1812, The Fall of New France: How the French Lost a North American Empire 1754-1763/ Ron has extensive and deep local knowledge of the War of 1812 in Niagara and is an active historian who leads local tours and talks on this subject.
