No, Council has paused the issuance of new Short Term Rental (STR) licenses for Cottage Rentals, Country Inns, Vacation Apartments, and Villas, effective December 10, 2024. This pause allows staff to conduct a detailed analysis of STRs in the community, including evaluating the current numbers and determining if a maximum limit should be imposed. The findings will be presented to Council by June 1, 2025.
If your application was submitted before December 10, 2024, it will continue to be processed. Existing STR operators can still renew their licenses at notl.com/short-term-rentals.
Yes, a new owner of a property that is currently licensed for short term rental can apply for their own license.
Please note that short-term rental licenses are non-transferable. The new property owner must submit a new application and complete the full licensing process.
Yes. New Bed & Breakfast licenses are continuing to be accepted.
No. If you currently own any type of Short Term Rental, you are permitted to apply for a renewal as the existing licence owner.
If an application was not submitted prior to December 11, new applications, with the exception of a Bed & Breakfast license, are not being accepted.
This pause affects all new Cottage Rentals, Villas, Vacation Apartments or Country Inn applications. New Bed & Breakfast applications are still being accepted.
A Staff report will be presented to Council before June 1, 2025. Council will determine the next steps for resuming the issuing of new licences at that time.
