Recovery & Safety Reminders
- Avoid flooded areas. Standing water may conceal hazards such as washed-out road shoulders, open catch basins, debris, or unstable ground.
- Do not drive through standing water. Even shallow water can damage vehicles or make roads unsafe.
- Stay clear of ditches, culverts, creeks, and stormwater infrastructure. Water levels and flow rates can change quickly, even after the rain has stopped.
- Use caution when cleaning up flood damage. Wear protective gloves and boots, and avoid contact with water that may be contaminated.
- If your home has flooded, contact your insurance provider as soon as possible to begin the claims process and document any damage with photos before starting cleanup, where it is safe to do so.
- Be patient with drainage systems. It may take time for ditches, culverts, storm sewers, and low-lying areas to fully drain following such an intense rainfall event.
- If your roadside ditch remains full, please allow at least 24 hours after the storm before reporting it, unless there is an immediate risk to public safety. Drainage systems need time to recover following heavy rainfall.

Each report is being assessed and prioritized to ensure resources are directed where they are needed most. Due to the significant number of requests, response times may be longer than usual.
