Beginning October 2024, the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake will begin rehabilitating select laterals in your neighbourhood utilizing no-dig, trenchless practices. This work will be done at no cost to the homeowners and will be paid for entirely by the Town.
WHO: The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake has retained an engineering consultant Geotechnical Engineers Inc. (GEI) and the Contractor, LiquiForce, to complete the work.
WHY: The aging sewers in this area require rehabilitation to provide future protection from tree root intrusion, reduce the risk of basement flooding, reduce groundwater entering the sanitary sewer and environmental advantages for the area.
WHAT: Work will involve the repair of select laterals using a trenchless Cured-In-Place Pipe technology to install a liner inside the existing pipe. This method accesses the laterals from the mainline (without entering private property), and will reduce the risk to excavate lawns, sidewalks, or streets. Since there is no excavation required, this method of construction is less disruptive, faster, and less costly than the conventional open-cut construction methods.
WHEN: This work is tentatively planned to begin October 2024 but may vary due to weather conditions. You will receive a second notice if your residence is directly affected by the work taking place, which will include the following additional information:
- A specific date and time for the work being done on your property
- Identify if/when you will not be able to use the water in your house (e.g. sinks, toilets, showers, dishwashers or washing machines)
- Further explain the trenchless technology that is being used
WHERE: For this project, we will be lining the public and one-meter into the private portions of the lateral. The benefit of this includes a continuous liner resulting in a smooth seal, a watertight repair, increased durability, and eliminates any future roots intrusion. If the work is happening on your sewer, the contractor will notify you if your service is being interrupted.
Accessibility
Accessibility is an important consideration for the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. If you require special accommodation, please contact the undersigned.
Construction Disruptions
The contractor will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the everyday life of your family and/or the operation of your business but there may be some inconveniences during the work, such as minor traffic delays, parking restrictions, noise, and odour. Thank you for your patience, co-operation and temporary loss of service during the liner installation (approximately three hours). Closer to the date of construction, additional letters will be provided to inform the property owner of the exact date and time of the service disruption.
Noise
Some noise may take place throughout the duration of the proposed work, normally during the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
