The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake continues to respond appropriately to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, taking a cautious, gradual approach to the safe return of in-person activity in Town facilities.
Beginning with the reopening of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Centre Fitness Area on July 16 and the resumption of programming and rentals at the Community Centre and Arenas on September 7, the Emergency Control Group has been conducting risk assessments, carefully monitoring the fourth wave, and analyzing the success of reopening facilities to the public safely.
This strategic, intentional approach has allowed Staff to determine appropriate measures required to reopen additional facilities and resume further in-person services (i.e., additional Staff, safety protocols, and internal policies) and implement them in a manner that allows reasonable time to adapt to changes.
As such, the Town is targeting the end of October for the return of public skating at the Centennial and Meridian Credit Union Arenas, allowing for additional Staff to be hired, and (approximate date) for reopening Town Administrative buildings to in-person services, allowing for the implementation of vaccination policies, accommodations and modifications.
“We are so fortunate to be in the position where many activities are able resume and many of life’s routines are returning to normal,” stated Lord Mayor Betty Disero. “In Niagara-on-the-Lake, we continue to see a consistent, high level of compliance with Provincial Regulations and Public Health guidelines; and for that, I want to extend my sincerest thanks.
“We have all sacrificed much, come together, and done our parts to get to this point. We are certainly not going to take that for granted. I look forward to continuing on this road to recovery in a gradual and cautious manner that protects the health of our community and prevents us from having to take steps backwards.”
“Staff has done a fantastic job adapting to ongoing changes brought on by the pandemic and continuing to serve the public with a high level of excellence. I want to express my gratitude for their dedication,” stated CAO Marnie Cluckie. “We look forward to returning to in-person services in the near future, while continuing the incredible progress we have made in modernizing online service options.”
