A significant amount of snow has built up overnight, causing poor and dangerous weather conditions throughout the Niagara Region.
As a result of inclement weather and blizzard warnings, Town Administration Buildings are closed today, January 17, 2022, and all non-essential services are suspended.
The Niagara-on-the-Lake Public Library has announced its closure as well.
The Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Centre, Meridian Credit Union and Centennial Arenas remain closed as a result of Provincial Regulation.
Essential services remain in effect, including plowing operations and Fire and Emergency Services.
Town crews are working diligently to respond to the fallen snow and ensure roads are cleared and safe for travel. Under these conditions, it will take snowplows quite some time to get to all streets. If possible, residents are encouraged to avoid travel.
Please visit notl.com/content/niagara-lake-snow-removal-procedures for details regarding winter control, including information on winter parking, the Town's snow removal process, stormwater pond safety, FAQs, and helpful reminders following a significant snowfall.
To report an issue regarding snow removal, please submit a service request at notl.com/service-request-complaint-form.

Residents can support the Town’s winter storm response by:
- Keeping streets clear of parked vehicles to allow for proper plow truck operations.
- Ensuring cleared snow is not piled on on the road. When clearing your driveway, pile snow on the right side of your driveway if you are facing the street. This will help reduce the amount of snow pushed back into your driveway by a plow.
- Keeping fire hydrants clear and accessible as in the event of a fire, gaining access could be critical.
- Keeping storm drains clear.
Anyone planning to travel today should exercise caution and be mindful of changing weather conditions. If required to travel, please take your time and be safe.
Thank you to all snowplow operators for braving the storm and working hard to respond to the fallen snow. Thank you also to those who continue to deliver essential and critical services to the Town.
Normal Town operations are expected to resume on Tuesday, January 18 at 8:30 a.m. The Town will continue to share information about closures and interruptions to services as the weather event continues to unfold.
