The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is pleased to invite residents, property owners, businesses and community members to take part in an upcoming Public Meeting focused on the Queen-Picton Heritage Conservation District Draft Plan.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., with in-person attendance at Town Hall (Council Chambers, 1593 Four Mile Creek Road, Virgil) or virtual participation. The final plan will be presented to Council for approval at the February 24, 2026, Council Meeting.
The draft Heritage Conservation District Plan includes: a Statement of Cultural Heritage Value; a Statement of Objectives; properties identified in the Study as contributing or non-contributing; and Statements of Contribution for each contributing property. Developed, as per the requirements of the Ontario Heritage Act, the Plan provides thoughtful guidance to help protect the area’s heritage attributes, support well-designed change, and ensure this historic neighbourhood continues to thrive for generations to come.
“Niagara-on-the-Lake’s heritage is one of our greatest strengths,” said Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa. “This plan reflects our shared commitment to protecting the places that define our community, while also supporting a vibrant and sustainable future. We encourage residents to take part and share their perspectives.”
Community voices play a vital role in shaping heritage planning, and the Town welcomes feedback from residents and stakeholders. The Public Meeting offers an opportunity to learn more about the draft plan, ask questions, and help the continued evolution of this historic area.
“This is about celebrating what makes the Queen-Picton area special and ensuring those qualities are respected as the community grows,” said CAO Nick Ruller. “Public input helps ensure the plan reflects both the district’s historic value and the lived experience of the people who care about it.”
