News Release - Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake Extends Condolences Following Fatal Collision

The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life following a serious motor vehicle collision that occurred in the early hours of Monday, July 21, 2025.

At approximately 3:08 a.m., Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) began receiving calls regarding a single-vehicle collision at a residential property on Queenston Road near Concession 6 Road. Emergency responders, including volunteer firefighters from Niagara-on-the-Lake Fire Stations 2 and 5, arrived to find a vehicle that had left the roadway, struck a tree, and was fully engulfed in flames with occupants trapped inside. Despite their immediate efforts, three individuals were sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

The NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit, supported by the Forensic Services Unit, is leading the investigation. According to the NRPS news release, the cause of the collision remains under investigation, with early indications suggesting excessive speed as a possible factor. Identification of the deceased is pending, and next-of-kin notifications are ongoing.

“This is a heartbreaking tragedy, and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives,” said Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa. “While the cause of the collision remains under investigation, we know that traffic safety is an ongoing concern for many in our community. Council remains committed to supporting initiatives that help make our roads safer for all.”

“This tragic incident serves as a solemn reminder of the critical role our emergency responders play, including the Town’s volunteer firefighters who arrive on scene during the most devastating and emotional moments,” added CAO Nick Ruller. “We are grateful for the professionalism, strength, and selflessness demonstrated by our volunteer firefighters and all first responders involved.”
