Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement stating that the Niagara Region may be subject to a significant winter storm beginning the evening of Thursday, December 22, into the holiday weekend.
Rain is expected overnight on Thursday, followed by extremely low temperatures on Friday morning. This change in temperature is anticipated to result in a flash freeze for locations that receive rainfall. There is also potential for strong and damaging winds and snow, creating possible blizzard conditions late Friday and into the weekend.
As a result of these poor weather conditions, Environment Canada is suggesting that alternative plans be made throughout the holiday weekend as travel conditions may become dangerous. Additionally, Public Safety Canada is encouraging everyone to make an emergency plan and ensure an emergency kit is on hand.
Town Staff is working diligently to prepare for this storm and is well-equipped to respond as needed. Crews will be out sanding in advance of the expected ice and will respond to snowfall as required. Keeping the roads safe and available for travel is a top priority for Staff, and crews will remain dedicated to this objective leading into and throughout the holiday weekend.
