The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting (CAnFR) for its annual financial report for the eleventh consecutive year!
"I am proud to serve as the Lord Mayor of a community that prioritizes financial sustainability and prosperity," stated Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa. "I appreciate the hard work and dedication of Town Staff, who have played a vital role in ensuring that Niagara-on-the-Lake remains a thriving municipality. On behalf of Council, thank you, Town Staff, and congratulations on receiving this award for the eleventh consecutive year!"
The CAnFR Program was established to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high-quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
"Receiving the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting Program is a remarkable achievement that acknowledges the exceptional efforts made by local governments," stated CAO Bruce Zvaniga. "Thank you to the Niagara-on-the-Lake team, specifically to our Finance Division, for their consistent dedication and effort to manage and report on the Town's finances. Congratulations on another job well done!"
Impartial Canadian Review Committee members have judged the annual financial report to meet the program's high standards. It demonstrates a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" designed to communicate the municipality's financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
