Today, the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Heritage Trail Committee hosted a special tree planting along the Heritage Trail, beginning at Charlotte Street and Paffard Street in Historic Old Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
A total of 50 trees were planted, most of which were Chautauqua Oak trees that had been grown at Niagara College from acorns from the Chautauqua neighbourhood.
“The Chautauqua Oaks that were planted today were a beautiful addition to the Heritage Trail,” stated Lord Mayor Betty Disero. “Job well done to the Niagara College Horticulture students for taking care of these trees over the years, and thank you to Canopy Growth Corporation for funding this initiative through the donation of the trees.”
“A special thanks to Canopy Growth Corporation, Forests Ontario, Niagara College Horticulture students, members of the Heritage Trail Committee and the Town’s Parks and Recreation Staff for collaborating on this event,” stated CAO Marnie Cluckie. “It is wonderful to see multiple parties joining together on this initiative to help make Niagara-on-the-Lake a greener community.”
