Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake Council and Staff have worked diligently to support local businesses recovering from the impacts of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This includes directing owners and operators to Regional, Provincial, and Federal funding options, and launching pilot programs and online campaigns to stimulate the local economy while maintaining public safety.
Keeping in line with these efforts, Council, at its meeting on November 22, 2021, approved the extension of the Temporary Patio Program until January 1, 2023. Through the streamlined process, existing permits will be extended upon submission of a renewed certificate of insurance for the year 2022.
“We believe this program has been a successful venture for the Town to support Niagara-on-the-Lake restaurants, increasing their capacity of service and helping them to recover revenue lost due to Provincially mandated closures,” stated Lord Mayor Disero. “Council remains committed to supporting businesses in every way we can.”
The Town’s Temporary Patio program was originally approved and implemented in the summer of 2020, allowing food and drink premises to create outdoor dining spaces at a time when indoor dining was not permitted as per Provincial Regulations. Council extended this program in January of 2021.
“We are grateful to local patio owners and operators for continuing to work with the Town to allow safe dining options for residents and visitors,” stated CAO Marnie Cluckie. “Thank you to Council and Staff for their steadfast resolve to support economic recovery in Niagara-on-the-Lake.”
