It is with sadness yet acclamation the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake announces the retirement of Craig Larmour, Director of Community and Development Services.
“Since his start with Niagara-on-the-Lake in 2016, Craig has been a pillar of wisdom, leadership and integrity for the Town,” stated Lord Mayor Betty Disero. “On behalf of Council, I extend my heartfelt thanks to Craig for his guidance and dedication to this community and wish him a very happy retirement!”
Craig leaves an impressive legacy after serving in municipal government for over 31 years. His past tenures include the Town of Lincoln, the Regional Municipality of Haldimand-Norfolk, the Township of West Lincoln, and the Town of Pelham. In Niagara-on-the-Lake, his portfolio included Planning and Building Services and By-law Enforcement. He confidently directed top-priority planning and building initiatives with a practical approach to policy and mentored his team with a positive and enthusiastic attitude. Craig has been instrumental in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic by taking the lead role in interpreting and implementing Provincial legislation and public health guidelines. Craig’s last day with the Town is January 14, 2022.
“Craig is an incredibly kind and thoughtful leader that sets a strong example by working hard, setting the bar high, and committing himself to the organization, its continuous improvement and endless possibilities for the future,” stated CAO Marnie Cluckie. “In addition to his significant skill and competence, he approaches challenges with a collaborative approach and greatly contributed to a positive work culture. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to work with and learn from Craig and wish him the best in this new chapter of his life.”
A robust recruitment process is underway to fill this important role, and the Town is working to facilitate a smooth transition for Craig’s successor. Rick Wilson, Manager of Planning, will take on the role of Acting Director of Community and Development Services until the position is filled.
The Town extends its thanks to Craig for his strong commitment to the Corporation and the community. His steadfast leadership and expansive expertise are valued, and Craig will be sincerely missed.
