Media Release - Niagara-on-the-Lake Switches to Remote Service as Town Facilities Close to the Public

As weather conditions intensify throughout the Niagara Region, the Town Administration Buildings will close at 12:00 p.m. today, Friday, December 23, 2022, and all non-essential services are suspended. Town Staff is pleased to offer remote service via phone (905-468-3266) and email (info@notl.com) during regular operating hours (8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.).

Essential services remain in effect, including plowing operations and Fire and Emergency Services.

In addition to the closure of Town Administration Buildings, the Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Centre will close today at 12:00 p.m., and the Meridian Credit Union and Centennial Arenas will close today at 4:00 p.m.

Town crews are working diligently to respond to the fallen snow and build-up of ice and ensure roads are cleared and safe for travel. Residents are encouraged to avoid travel and keep up-to-date on snowplow operations through the Town’s new online snow plow tracker. Under these conditions, it will take snowplows quite some time to get to all streets.

Please visit www.notl.com/town-services/roads-infrastructure/snow-procedures for details regarding winter control, including information on winter parking, the Town's snow removal process, stormwater pond safety, FAQs, and helpful reminders following a significant snowfall.

To report an issue regarding snow removal, please submit a service request at www.notl.com/request-service-or-file-complaint.

Those wishing to report an emergency related to water, wastewater or roads are asked to call 905-468-3266 extension 1.

Residents can support the Town’s winter storm response by:

  • Keeping streets clear of parked vehicles to allow for proper plowing operations.
  • Ensuring cleared snow is not piled on the road.
    • When clearing your driveway, pile snow on the right side of your driveway if you are facing the street. This will help reduce the amount of snow pushed back into your driveway by a plow.
  • Keeping fire hydrants clear and accessible, as in the event of a fire, gaining access is critical.
  • Keeping storm drains clear.

Anyone planning to travel today should exercise caution and be mindful of changing weather conditions. If required to travel, please take your time and be safe.

Thank you to all snowplow operators for braving the storm and working hard to respond to the fallen snow. Thank you also to those who continue to deliver essential and critical services to the Town.

The Town will continue to share information about closures and service interruptions as the weather event unfolds. Stay tuned.
