The Head Guard, under the direction of the Recreation Program Specialist and Aquatic Coordinator, is primarily responsible for assisting the aquatics team by directing and supervising aquatic staff, including Lifeguards and Swim Instructors at Town pools. The Head Guard ensures accuracy of cash handling and POS processes, and implementation of safe, enjoyable, and high-quality aquatic programs in conjunction with the Recreation Program Specialist and Aquatics Coordinator. As a leader on the pool deck, the Head Guard exemplifies a service-minded attitude, fosters effective public relations, and maintains the safe and effective operation of daily aquatic activities.
The successful candidate will have:
- Minimum of a Grade 12 education or equivalent.
- Minimum two (2) years of work experience as a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor.
- Must hold and maintain the following qualifications:
- National Lifeguard – Pool
- Lifesaving Society – Swim Instructor
- Lifesaving Society – Lifesaving Instructor
- Lifesaving Society – Aquatic Supervisor Training
- Standard First Aid Certification (WSIB recognized)
- CPR – Level C
- Automated External Defibrillator
- High Five – Principles of Healthy Child Development (or willingness to obtain) - High level of responsibility and accountability.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to motivate and guide staff.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work individually as well as part of a small team (6-8 people).
- Class G driver’s license.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including: evenings, weekends, holidays and multiple locations as required by programming needs.
- Qualifications considered assets, such as: Examiner – Bronze, National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner, SFA Instructor/Examiner, Instructor Trainer
- Previous experience with ACTIVENet recreation software is an asset.
Successful candidates will be required to work the summer season, July and August. Hours of work vary and can work up to 44 hours per week. Weekend and evening work may be required.
