As threats of tariffs continue at the federal level, I recognize the concerns within our community regarding potential economic impacts. While this is a federal matter, its effects are felt locally.
Council understands the concerns of our local businesses and remains committed to advocating for their interests. Economic Development has been identified as a key priority in the Town’s Strategic Plan, and Council remains committed to ensuring the support of local businesses.
We are working closely with our regional and provincial partners, aligning with Premier Ford's and Regional Chair Bradley's messages, to ensure Niagara’s voice is heard. Collaboration across all levels of government is essential, and we will continue advocating for policies that protect our economy.
Now more than ever, we encourage our community to take action:
✔ Buy Local.
✔ Buy Niagara.
✔ Buy Canadian.
Strengthening our local economy starts with each of us. Every dollar spent within Niagara supports jobs, sustains businesses, and fosters economic resilience.
Niagara-on-the-Lake has a long-standing, positive relationship with our U.S. partners, and we remain hopeful that a fair and balanced resolution will be reached. In the meantime, Council will consider any and all appropriate measures within our jurisdiction to support our community.
We remain committed to ensuring a stable and thriving local economy, and we will continue working with our partners to navigate this period with strength, collaboration, and resilience.
Gary Zalepa
Lord Mayor, Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake
