The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is inviting residents, community partners, and stakeholders to attend an upcoming Energy Mapping Workshop as part of the Town’s work to develop a Community Energy and Emissions Plan (CEEP).

The Public Information Centre will take place on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Centre Auditorium (14 Anderson Lane) and will be led by QUEST Canada, the Town’s consultant through the Ontario Net-Zero Communities Accelerator Program. No registration is required to attend.

The workshop will focus on understanding how energy is currently used and supplied in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and on identifying opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and strengthen long-term community resilience.

“This workshop is an important opportunity to bring the community together to help shape Niagara-on-the-Lake’s energy future,” said Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa. “By working collaboratively with residents, partners, and experts, we can identify practical actions that support environmental responsibility while reflecting the unique needs of our community.”

QUEST Canada is a national charitable organization that supports municipalities across Ontario and Canada in developing community-based energy and emissions plans that align with provincial and national net-zero goals. Niagara-on-the-Lake is participating in all phases of the Ontario Net-Zero Communities Accelerator Program, including benchmarking, greenhouse gas emissions inventory development, and energy mapping and action planning.

“The Energy Mapping Workshop reflects the significant work already underway by Town Staff to advance sustainable climate initiatives,” said CAO Nick Ruller. “Their efforts in gathering data, collaborating with partners, and engaging the community are helping to move Niagara-on-the-Lake toward practical, achievable climate solutions.”

Workshop Format

The evening will include:

  • A short presentation providing an overview of the Community Energy and Emissions Plan and the Ontario Net-Zero Communities Accelerator Program
  • Interactive breakout sessions focused on energy mapping and action planning
  • Opportunities for participants to share ideas and help identify priority actions
  • A summary of next steps and how input will inform future planning

The Town’s benchmarking assessment and greenhouse gas emissions inventory will be presented to Council by the end of 2026. Additional community engagement opportunities may be considered in 2027 as the plan moves toward implementation.

All interested community members are welcome to attend. For more information about this project, visit the Town’s website.
