At the February 28, 2023, Council Meeting, Town Council passed the Temporary Use By-law to permit the extension of restaurant and bar patios, subject to the Town's Temporary Patio Program requirements, until February 28, 2024.
The extension of the Temporary Use By-law will allow the continuation of the temporary patio program in Niagara-on-the-Lake for the 2023 season and for the review of the program itself.
"The extension of this program will assist in strengthening the economic prosperity of our community and support our many wonderful local food and drink establishments," stated Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa. "I encourage Niagara-on-the-Lake residents and visitors to enjoy the delicious local food and beverages while sitting on a patio, taking in the Town's beauty. On behalf of Town Council, I hope that extending this program will fiscally support patio operators this upcoming spring and summer season."
The Town remains committed to reviewing and streamlining the patio permit process, supporting economic prosperity, and providing customer service excellence. Therefore, the application process continues to be free of charge.
"This program has been extremely successful since its inception and has added to the vibrancy and engaging nature of Niagara-on-the-Lake's streetscape," stated CAO Marnie Cluckie." Thank you to Town Staff for putting forward these recommendations to extend the program and providing patio operators with a seamless approach to the application process."
The application process will open on March 13, 2023. To apply for a new Temporary Patio Permit or renew an existing permit, please apply https://www.notl.com/business-development/temporary-patio-program. Town Staff is available to assist businesses through this process and answer any questions.
