At tonight’s Committee of the Whole Planning Meeting, Council provided direction on the appeals submitted to the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) concerning a proposed development at 223 and 227 Mary Street. While a decision was made, final approval will be determined at the upcoming Council Meeting on November 26, 2024.
The applications propose a four-story, 41-unit apartment building, which requires an Official Plan Amendment and Zoning By-law Amendment. Following a thorough review and consideration of all inputs, Town Planning Staff recommended approval of the amendments.
The requested amendments were originally considered at the September 10, 2024, Committee of the Whole Planning Meeting and subsequently at the September 24 Council Meeting. Council’s decision resulted in a tie vote to pass the required By-laws, which led to the refusal of the proposal. In response, the applicant has appealed the decision to the OLT.
During its meeting, Council considered three potential courses of action to respond to the appeal, as recommended by Staff. Council voted in favour of settling the appeal by approving the development proposal as recommended in the Staff Report, respecting Official Plan Amendment Application OPA-04-2022 and Zoning By-law Amendment Application ZBA-23-2022 for 223 and 227 Mary Street and presenting such settlement to the OLT.
The Town will continue to update the community on the progress and outcome of this appeal process, ensuring transparency as this matter advances.
Community members can read the full recommendation report (CDS-24-178) and are invited to watch the recording of tonight's meeting, which will be posted on the Town’s website once the meeting has ended.
