Town Statement - Ontario Land Tribunal Decision on the Randwood Request for Review

On January 28, 2025, the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) issued a decision on Solmar's Request for Review of the OLT Decision issued on October 11, 2024.  Legal Counsel of Solmar submitted the appeal pursuant to section 23 of the Ontario Land Tribunal Act as it relates to the October decision on the planning and heritage applications by Solmar for 200 John Street East and 588 Charlotte Street, known as Randwood.

The OLT has concluded that the Request does not raise a compelling and convincing case that one of the grounds enumerated under Rule 25 is present in the Decision. Therefore, the request is dismissed, and the Decision OLT-22-003603 – OLT-23-000494 remains in full force and effect.

This decision means that Solmar will have two months from the issuance of this Disposition to advise the other parties and the Tribunal whether it intends to pursue the studies and revisions to its proposed development as directed by the Tribunal in its Decision. In the event that Solmar advises that it will not proceed as directed, the Tribunal will issue a final order dismissing the appeals.
