Niagara-on-the-Lake Receives Canadian Award for Financial Reporting

This award represents a significant accomplishment for the Town

The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is proud to announce its receipt of the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting (CAnFR) by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its 2020 Annual Financial Report. This is the Town’s ninth consecutive year receiving this award.

The CAnFR recognizes excellence in governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant accomplishment by a local government and its management.

“I would like to thank the Director of Corporate Services/Treasurer, Kyle Freeborn, and the Corporate Services Department for their hard work in creating a financial report worthy of national recognition,” stated Lord Mayor Betty Disero. “Congratulations to the Town’s management team for this great achievement.”

“I am very proud of the Niagara-on-the-Lake team for receiving this award,” stated CAO Marnie Cluckie. “Despite the fiscal challenges that came with the pandemic in 2020, Town Staff remained committed to creating a comprehensive, professional, and transparent financial report. This award reflects the team’s successful and collaborative effort toward financial sustainability and accountability.”

The CAnFR Program was established to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high-quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports.

The annual financial report has been judged by impartial Canadian Review Committee members to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” designed to clearly communicate the municipality’s financial story and to motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
