News Release - Town Responds to Vehicle Break-Ins in Niagara-on-the-Lake

The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is aware of the recent incidents of vehicle break-ins and window smashing in our community. Staff are staying in close contact with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) to address these concerns and take proactive steps to ensure the safety and security of our residents.

Residents are strongly encouraged to report every incident to the police. In addition, police are encouraging neighbours to review any video footage from home security systems and consider increasing the sensitivity of their door cameras to capture a wider radius. Reporting suspicious activity immediately is essential.

Safety Recommendations

To reduce the risk of becoming a target, please consider the following tips:

  • Lock all vehicle doors and ensure they are secure overnight.
  • Leave outdoor lighting on throughout the night to deter criminal activity.
  • Park vehicles in garages, if possible, for added protection.
  • Avoid leaving valuables in plain sight.

NRPS officers are actively investigating the incidents and compiling data from the reports received. NRPS is taking these incidents very seriously and has committed to increasing patrols in the area. Their crime analysts are reviewing reports and video footage to identify suspects and distribute relevant information to officers.

Residents who have witnessed any suspicious activity or captured relevant video footage are urged to share this information with NRPS.

For more information on this matter, please review the NRPS news release. To report an incident, please contact NRPS at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1007581.

The Town will continue to work in partnership with NRPS and will provide updates to the community as more information becomes available.

Thank you, and Happy New Year, Niagara-on-the-Lake.
