Media Release - A Successful Solar Eclipse Experience in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Monday's highly anticipated solar eclipse was a smooth success for the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, providing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for residents and visitors to witness this rare event.

"The moon passing in front of the sun, casting a shadow over our small Town, was a truly awe-inspiring moment," stated Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa. "On behalf of Town Council, thank you to Town Staff and local authorities for their preparations in ensuring that Niagara-on-the-Lake was well-equipped to manage the expected influx of visitors, traffic control, safety measures, and more. I hope that everyone had a great eclipse day!"

Despite the lower-than-anticipated visitors, the event attracted visitors from all over.

"From soft road closures to increased traffic patrol and enhanced facility operations, the Town was prepared to handle what was expected to be a rather large gathering," stated CAO Bruce Zvaniga. "I am thrilled that everything went smoothly, and everyone had a safe and enjoyable experience. Thank you to Staff for their effective and comprehensive preparation for this day!"

The Town thanks everyone who chose Niagara-on-the-Lake as their viewing destination and for safely experiencing this event in our Town.
