Media Release - Niagara-on-the-Lake Receives Tenth Consecutive Canadian Award for Financial Reporting

The Town is proud to announce that it has once again received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting (CAnFR) from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The Town has received this award for ten consecutive years!

The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting Program was established to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high-quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“Meeting the high standards of the CAnFR Program is a great achievement, especially for ten years,” stated Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa. “On behalf of Town Council, congratulations to the Town’s Corporate Services Department for their year-over-year commitment to producing a financial report that CAnFR recognizes.”

The CAnFR recognizes excellence in governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant accomplishment by a local government and its management.

“The Town is committed to financial transparency and effectively communicating its financial outcomes to the citizens of Niagara-on-the-Lake,” stated CAO Marnie Cluckie. “The Town is fortunate to have an outstanding Corporate Services Department that consistently delivers exceptional financial services. The receipt of this award is the result of teamwork and dedication, and I am proud to see the team honoured by CAnFR for the tenth consecutive year!”

The annual financial report has been judged by impartial Canadian Review Committee members to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” designed to clearly communicate the municipality’s financial story and to motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
