Media Release - Niagara-on-the-Lake Fire & Emergency Services Department Attains 'Accredited Superior Tanker Shuttle Service' Certification

The Niagara-on-the-Lake Fire & Emergency Services Department is thrilled to announce a significant milestone in its continuous pursuit of excellence. The Department achieved the prestigious 'Accredited Superior Tanker Shuttle Service' certification, elevating the level of service it can offer to the community.

"Congratulations to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Fire & Emergency Services Department on this remarkable achievement," stated Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa. "Your unwavering commitment, professionalism, and leadership continue to set a commendable standard."

This noteworthy certification, provided by the Fire Underwriters Survey, a national organization supplying data on public fire protection, is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the Department's firefighters. Through rigorous training and collaboration, the Department demonstrated its ability to provide a service equivalent to hydrant-protected areas in rural areas without hydrants.

“In an impressive accomplishment, the Niagara-on-the-Lake Fire & Emergency Services Department has not only secured this certification for residential properties but has also attained an increased level of 'commercial line' certification," stated CAO Marnie Cluckie. "This achievement is shared by fewer than 20 fire departments across the province, showcasing the Department's leadership. Special thanks to Fire Chief Jay Plato and his team for their exceptional efforts to advance and strengthen the Town's Fire Service."

The achievement of the 'Accredited Superior Tanker Shuttle Service' certification translates to potential insurance reductions for citizens in rural communities. The Department's recognized level of service means homeowners and property owners in these areas are eligible for reduced home and property insurance rates. The certification process requires a well-designed and documented water supply delivery system.

“I am incredibly proud of our firefighters for their continued commitment to the community and to each other for coming together to achieve this certification. Additionally, for going above and beyond by achieving the ‘commercial line’ of this certification,” stated Fire Chief Jay Plato.
