Niagara-on-the-Lake's Fire & Emergency Services Department worked with The MARC Group to get 2500 free reusable shopping bags to distribute to members of the community to promote fire safety. Each bag is designed with the fire safety message "working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms save lives" in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of testing alarms in homes throughout Town.
The Town’s Community Risk Reduction Staff delivered over 1200 bags to students at Crossroads Public School, St. Davids Public School, and St. Michaels Catholic Elementary School to bring home for their families.
On November 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Town Community Risk Reduction Staff will be at Phil's Your Independent Grocer and on November 15, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Hendricks Your Independent Grocer distributing bags to customers. Bags will be limited to one bag per customer.
"Fire education is essential to safeguarding fire safety throughout the community," stated CAO Marnie Cluckie. "The important, life-saving message on these reusable bags is intended to remind residents to continuously test their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to ensure they work in the event of a fire."
