NOTL Opens Indoor Cooling Centre

In order to provide relief for those visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake during extreme heat, the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is opening a temporary indoor cooling centre in the Market Room of the Courthouse, located at 26 Queen Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake.

This air-conditioned space, conveniently located across the street from the Market Street public washroom, will be open from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. throughout July on days when a heat alert/advisory is in effect. On days when the cooling centre is open, signage will be posted in the surrounding area, and Staff will share its availability to the Town’s social media pages and website. In August, the temporary indoor cooling centre will move to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Centre, at 14 Anderson Lane.

The Town is following all Provincial regulations and Public Health guidelines to help protect against the spread of COVID-19. For everyone’s safety, cooling centre attendees are required to wear a mask and maintain a physical distance of 2 metres from anyone outside of their household.

Please do not attend a cooling centre, and contact public health if you:

  • Have had close contact with anyone with acute respiratory illness or travelled outside of Ontario in the past 14 days.
  • Have a confirmed case of COVID-19 or had close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19.
  • Have any of the following symptoms: fever/chills, new onset of cough, worsening chronic cough, lost sense of taste or smell, shortness of breath (even when sitting or walking regularly), sore throat, a runny or congested nose (not allergies), unusual level of fatigue, unusual headache, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea or loss of appetite, feeling unwell for an unknown reason.

For immediate alerts, follow the Town on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
