Town Staff and community volunteers prepared approximately 600 treat bags for Niagara-on-the-Lake children, 500 of which were picked up by families at the Town’s five Fire Stations and 100 of which were delivered to the Niagara Region Native Centre this past weekend.
“With last year’s Kids Halloween Giveaway being such a success, the Customer Experience and Communications Team decided to do a treat bag giveaway again this year, with the added excitement of having kids come to see fire trucks at their local stations,” stated CAO Marnie Cluckie.
The Town solicited donations from community members and local businesses, who were extremely generous in providing donations toward this event. Pick-up was coordinated with the help of Niagara-on-the-Lake's volunteer firefighters.
“The Halloween treat bags was such a great initiative. Town staff, firefighters, community volunteers and generous donors came together to bring a wonderful Halloween experience to our children. This event is such a thoughtful way to connect our communities, families and children,” stated Lord Mayor Betty Disero. “My thanks go out to everyone who participated.”
Among other items, bags were filled with chips, chocolate and candy in manufacturer packaging, Halloween-related colouring pages, stickers, and stamps, and special vouchers for parents. Special allergy-friendly bags were also prepared, as requested.
The Town would like to send special thanks to the following individuals, groups and organizations for their generous contributions. Without them, this amazing initiative would not have been possible.
