The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is establishing a temporary waste transfer station at the Town Operations Yard, located at 1565 Four Mile Creek Road, in response to significant rainfall and widespread flooding throughout the community.
The rainfall event resulted in flooding at residential properties and agricultural areas, creating an immediate need for residents to dispose of flood-damaged materials. The temporary transfer station will provide a controlled and accessible location for receiving eligible material while supporting the timely cleanup and recovery of affected properties.
“The Town recognizes the significant impact this flooding has had on residents and properties throughout Niagara-on-the-Lake,” said Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa. “Providing a temporary location for flood-damaged waste will help affected residents move forward with cleanup and recovery. We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as Staff work to operate the site safely and efficiently.”
The temporary transfer station will operate:
Dates: August 6 to 8, 2026
Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily (Saturday until 3:00 p.m.)

The temporary transfer station is being established and operated in consultation with Niagara Region and is being offered in addition to Niagara Region's temporary curbside flood waste collection service for Niagara-on-the-Lake and St. Catharines, providing residents with another option to dispose of eligible flood-related materials. Waste will only be accepted while Town Staff are present. Operations may be adjusted or temporarily suspended based on demand, bin capacity, weather, staffing availability or safety considerations.
The site will accept non-hazardous, flood-damaged residential waste, including:
- Furniture
- Carpeting and underpadding
- Drywall and damaged building materials
- Household contents
- Non-refrigerated appliances, where permitted
- Comparable non-hazardous materials damaged by flooding
Household hazardous waste, fuels, oils, solvents, paints, chemicals, propane tanks, asbestos-containing or suspected asbestos-containing materials, sewage, liquid waste, contaminated soil, agricultural chemicals and pesticides will not be accepted. Refrigerated appliances containing refrigerants will also not be accepted unless specifically authorized. Individuals arriving with prohibited materials will be directed to an appropriate authorized disposal location.
This service is being provided to Niagara-on-the-Lake residents only. Staff will have the authority to refuse materials or temporarily suspend access when necessary.
Vehicles must enter the Operations Yard through the second access point and follow the posted signs, cones and barricades to the designated unloading area. Upon leaving the Operations Yard, all vehicles will be required to turn right onto Four Mile Creek Road. A map showing the designated route and drop-off area is included below.
Residents will generally be responsible for unloading their own materials. Children and pets must remain inside vehicles while at the site. Access may be temporarily paused if traffic conditions become unsafe or the waste bins reach capacity.
Collected waste will be transported by Miller Waste Systems to an approved receiving facility. Waste will not be processed, burned, buried, or permanently disposed of at the Town Operations Yard, and the Town’s operating intention is to remove all collected waste at the end of each day.
“The temporary transfer station has been carefully planned to provide residents with a safe and controlled disposal option while protecting Town operations and the surrounding environment,” said Nick Ruller, Chief Administrative Officer. “Residents can support these efforts by following Staff direction, bringing only eligible flood-damaged materials and remaining patient while moving through the site.”
