The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is updating its Pollution Prevention Control Plan (PPCP), a strategic plan that guides how the Town manages its wastewater collection system to reduce pollution, protect water quality, and support long-term infrastructure performance.
About the Project
Originally developed in 2012, the PPCP is being updated to review past recommendations, assess completed work, and establish a long-term wastewater servicing strategy that will support the community through 2051 and beyond. The update will help ensure the Town’s wastewater system can accommodate future growth while meeting provincial performance requirements.
The Town has retained GEI Consultants to complete the study, which is being undertaken as a Master Planning Study in accordance with Phases 1 and 2 of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) process, an approved process under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. The study will evaluate system performance, review inflow and infiltration reduction efforts, and assess alternatives to support sustainable wastewater management.
Public Engagement Opportunity
Residents are encouraged to get involved by watching a pre-recorded presentation, which will be available online from March 25 to April 8, 2026, on Join the Conversation, and leave comments. The pre-recorded presentation will provide an overview of the study and the alternative solutions being considered. No registration is required to view or comment.
Participants can:
- View the presentation and supporting materials online starting March 25
- Submit your comments through the project website to help inform the final PPCP report by April 8
All materials will remain available on the project website following the comment period, and a final PPCP report will be released for public review and comment.

Updating the PPCP will help:
- Protect local water quality in lakes, rivers, and streams
- Reduce the risk of pollution from wastewater overflows
- Improve system reliability for homes and businesses
