The Town is aware of the recent misinformation circulating about the Royal George Theatre planning application across online news platforms, print media, and social media. It recognizes that information can spread quickly and is not always verified. In this environment, access to clear, factual information matters. For this reason, the Town is sharing this clarification to ensure residents have accurate and complete information about the project and Council’s decision.
To be clear, Council did not waive, reduce, or eliminate any required parking fees for the Royal George Theatre. The redevelopment necessitates one additional parking space, and, consistent with Town policy, the Shaw will pay cash in lieu of that space at the time of the Site Plan Agreement.
We encourage everyone to approach what they read or hear with thoughtful consideration, asking whether the information is supported by facts, provides full context, and reflects the complete picture. Taking this approach helps ensure our community’s conversations remain grounded in accurate and reliable information.
Municipal Staff are committed professionals who serve Niagara-on-the-Lake with integrity. Their decisions are based on complete information, regulatory requirements, and a responsibility to act in the best interest of the community.
The Town encourages all residents to engage responsibly, think critically, and contribute to constructive, informed dialogue. Thank you.
