Media Release - Niagara-on-the-Lake Hosts 2023 Sports Wall of Fame Ceremony

Niagara-on-the-Lake has been the proud host of the Sports Wall of Fame Ceremony for many years, honouring individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the Town's sports community or achieved significant athletic accomplishments.

The Town is excited to announce that the 2023 inductees are Paul French and Monty Slingerland!

The public is invited to attend this ceremony to celebrate these two inductees as they are recognized for helping shape the community’s strong sporting landscape. Details are as follows:

  • Date: Friday, August 18, 2023
  • Location: Meridian Credit Union Arena (1567 Four Mile Creek Road, Virgil) in the front lobby.
  • Time: The social starts at 5:00 p.m., and the ceremony follows at 6:00 p.m.
  • Registration to attend is not required.

"Sports have a wonderful way of bringing people together and building strong bonds within the community," stated Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa. "Niagara-on-the-Lake is lucky to have so many residents who are passionate about playing and teaching sports. On behalf of Town Council, I wish to congratulate Monty and Paul for this great accomplishment and extend a warm welcome to the Sports Wall of Fame!"

"The Sports Wall of Fame was established in 2003, and each year, the Town looks forward to honouring leaders in sports for their valuable contributions to Niagara-on-the-Lake athletics," stated CAO Marnie Cluckie. "Thank you to the Sports Wall of Fame Committee and Town Staff who work hard each year to facilitate the nominations and celebrations for the Sports Wall of Fame. Congratulations to the 2023 winners!"
