Public Notice - Glendale Avenue/York Road Intersection Full Closure

UPDATE: Due to recent and forecasted inclement weather during the closure, the road will be closed to through traffic until Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at 12:00 p.m.

WHAT: The Glendale Avenue and York Road intersection will be completely closed to facilitate the final construction phase of the roundabout. This is a Niagara Region project. 

WHEN: The roundabout construction is scheduled to commence on Friday, July 21, at 9:00 p.m. and conclude by Friday, July 28, at 7:00 a.m. In the event of weather-related delays, the alternate start date will be Friday, July 28, at 9:00 p.m., with a reopening on Friday, August 4, at 7:00 a.m.

IMPACT:

  • The Airport Road loop from the Diverging Diamond is one-way, taking traffic to Airport Road.
  • Motorists can't access the Diverging Diamond via Airport Road and need to follow the detours accordingly.
  • Those coming from St. David's will only be able to reach Purolator at 550 York Road.
  • The northbound Glendale Avenue to eastbound York Road lane will be accessible to local businesses between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. This access will also be available during weeknights if there are no construction activities obstructing the lane.

COMMUNICATION: Road closure signage will be installed at the Power Centre to prevent traffic from entering the work zone. Detour signage will guide traffic accordingly, and electronic signage has been set up to provide advanced warnings and closure information. The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake will be disseminating this information through the Town's social media channels.
