At the recent 28th Communities in Bloom National & International Awards Ceremonies held in Victoria, British Columbia, the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake had the honour of receiving third place for the Year of the Garden.

Communities in Bloom is a volunteer and partnership-driven charitable organization that aims to inspire all communities to enhance the quality of life and the environment through people and plants to create community pride.

The Year of the Garden 2022 is a Centennial Celebration of Canada’s horticulture sector, celebrating Canada’s rich garden heritage and vibrant garden culture and creating important legacies for a sustainable future.

“The Communities in Bloom Committee are proud of the continuing achievements in celebrating gardening and all its many facets,” stated Vicky Downes, CIB Committee Chair. “The award for celebrating the Year of the Garden 2022 included a beautiful sign at the entrance to Queen Street and more than 21,000 red plantings, which was the colour chosen for this initiative. Although the red plants were intermingled with the many other varieties that the Town Staff cultivate all season long, they were certainly front and centre.”

This award ceremony honoured municipalities across Canada, the United States, Belgium, Ireland, Italy, and Slovenia.
