Beginning September 23, major construction will be taking place on the Glendale Avenue overpass at the QEW, impacting traffic coming into and leaving Niagara-on-the-Lake. The Glendale overpass and the QEW, which will facilitate the opening of the new diverging diamond, the first of its kind in Ontario.
Residents should expect delays and detours via alternate travel routes. Specifically, those travelling to or from Toronto or local destinations such as Niagara College, the Outlet Collection at Niagara or the GM Glendale plant should allow extra travel time and follow posted detour signage. Travellers are advised to use caution when travelling through the area.
The following long-term (60 days) construction impacts will occur:
QEW
- The QEW Niagara Bound off-ramp will be closed at Glendale Avenue. Traffic will be diverted via a detour route through Taylor Road and Mountain Road.
- The QEW Toronto Bound will be closed at Mountain Road. Traffic will be diverted via a detour route through Mountain Road and Taylor Road.
Highway 405
- Access to Highway 405 from QEW Niagara Bound will be through Glendale Avenue, Taylor Road, Mountain Road, QEW, Thorold Stone Road, and Stanley Avenue.
- Highway 405 Toronto Bound will be closed at Stanley Avenue. Traffic will be diverted via a detour route through Thorold Stone Road, QEW, Mountain Road, and Taylor Road.
Glendale Avenue/York Road Intersection
- Reconstructed to a single-lane roundabout, a new Airport Road ramp and connection road from Glendale Avenue to York Road/Airport Road intersection will be constructed on behalf of the Niagara Region.
On-site signage has been posted along the QEW advising of these closures. The Town will be posting a Public Notice on the Town’s website shortly and updating our social media channels as the construction continues.
