It is with great sorrow that the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake learns of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake offers its deepest condolences to the Royal Family, the people of the United Kingdom, and those that unite the Commonwealth during this time of grieving. As our community mourns this devastating loss, the Town invites residents to remember and reflect on Her Majesty's profound global accomplishments, unquivering devotion to service, and the unprecedented stability she provided the British people.
The Town was honoured to welcome Her Majesty and His Royal Highness Prince Philip in June of 1973 when they helped to open the Shaw Festival Theatre and visited Fort George and Pillar and Post.
Through Her Majesty’s 70 years of reign, she epitomized the essence of public service. As the first Capital of Upper Canada, The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is eternally grateful for its rich ties to the British Crown.
The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake has lowered flags at Town facilities to half-mast to mourn the death of Her Majesty and extend our condolences to the Royal Family during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
