Under the direction of the Manager of Public Works, the Climate Change Coordinator is primarily responsible for planning, implementing, and managing climate change priorities as identified in the Climate Change Adaptation Plan (CCAP). This position will contribute to the development and implementation of operational and institutional changes that will lead to operational savings and the reduction of GHG emissions.
The successful candidate will have:
- Post-Secondary education in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in environmental management and/or community based climate change mitigation and adaptation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including writing successful grant applications, writing reports and creating and delivering presentations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Federal and Provincial climate change policies and legislation.
- Demonstrated understanding of climate change issues and sustainable development within the context of municipal government.
- Strong knowledge and experience in the areas of GHG emissions reductions, climate change adaptation, sustainable development and environmental policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated understanding of climate change issues and sustainable development within the context of municipal government.
- Strong research and analytical skills (e.g., ability to conduct rigorous research, summarize findings, and present recommendations).
- Ability to deal with all levels of staff, government agencies and the public.
- Valid G driver’s license.
- Ability to collaborate with other departments and stakeholders.
